China Shanghai

My favourite restaurants in Shanghai

1. Lost Heaven

Lost Heaven might just be the most delicious restaurant of Shanghai. Whenever in Asia, I spend most of my time munching street food, but luckily my travel companion made us proper lunch reservations! Lost Heaven serves cuisine from the Yunnan province. The dishes to me seemed like a tasty mixture of Chinese and Thai food. Lost Heaven is a really popular restaurant in Shanghai, so for evenings you need to make a reservation. Lunch hours are fine for just popping in!

2. Nanxiang Steamed Bun

Nanxiang Steamed Bun is a tiny little Dim Sum restaurant in the heart of Shanghai’s tourist scene. Nanxiang Steamed Bun is just a proper and honest way to experience these heavenly little buns, so it sure is worth the wait. But darlings, a tip follows; walk straight upstairs to avoid the tourist crowd and to get seated right away!

3. Din Tai Fung

Din Tai Fung is actually a dim sum chain restaurant, which you can find all over Asia – but unlike McDonald’s, it’s super tasty! I fell in love with Din Tai Fung when I was living in Hong Kong. In Shanghai, you can find one at least from the old town, and let me worn you – the queues go for miles!

4. Kommune

Kommune is my favorite place to hang out in Shanghai! Why is that? Well because Kommune serves the tastiest fresh vegetable juices of the city! The restaurant also offers some healthy lunch, but nothing very Chinese.

5. Bell Cafe & Bar

Taikang Road itself happens to be home to several groovy hipster spots, another favorite being Bell Cafe & Bar. Bell Cafe & Bar is a cute cafe / cocktail bar in the upstairs of an old brick house. Bell opens it’s door in the afternoon, so don’t get there too early!
